These Tigers are gone from our halls
but not from our hearts.

This page is a work in progress.  I need birth and death dates of these classmates.  I can scan in obituaries, also.  I will try to add photos soon.

Please take time to share memories or let us know anything you know of their lives after PHS.

Gayle Batson was a bright, accomplished, rather cynical, and sarcastically funny man who lived graciously and gracefully in a situation no one really knew how to handle at that time. I travelled in a Spanish study group to Mexico with him in the summer following our junior year. We didn’t learn much Spanish, but we sure had a good time, mastering such life skills as how to smoke and make ourselves appear sophisticated and comfortable in Mexico City hotspots. He and I shared the dubious distinction of being considered “Most Intellectual” by the rest of our class at a stage in our lives when we mostly felt awkward and ill-at-ease. I lost touch with him after college, and was sad and troubled at hearing of his premature death.  I feel certain that his practice of psychiatry was a gift to those he served in the Army and to the children to whom he later ministered in New York. He was a talented and kind man.

On my first day at a new school in the 3rd grade, Pete sat right behind me.  He immediately welcomed me and became my buddy ... he had a great sense of humor ... and during those first few weeks of school, he made sure that I knew where I was supposed to be.  Since our last names were so close, he was in my homeroom for many years ...

From Pat Blitch Clark on August 4th, 2014
Pete sat behind me in Civics class where he kept us all in stitches.  Not sure who noticed it first, but we began counting the number of times Mr. T would lift his pants with his elbows.  Got to 56 in one class period.  Didn't learn much.  It was very sad to read of Pete's sacrifice many years ago.  Finding his name on the  Viet Nam Memorial in DC was a sad but proud moment.  He will always be remembered fondly with a chuckle.

From ELIZABETH GOLIGHTLY on July 18th, 2014
I want to thank you for wanting to remember Pete.  Even though he did not graduate with us, he was a part of our class.  Due to family obligations, he spent his Jr. and Sr. years at Tate High School.  He had moved in with his maternal grandparents to assist his aging grandfather with help on their farm in Barineau Park.  After graduation he continued his education at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Al.  He then spent his Army basic training at Ft Benning then on to Ft Leanar Wood in MO. We were married on Nov. 18, 1967.  He was shipped to VietNam on Dec.11, 1967 where on Dec 23 he lost his life in service to our country.  He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Ken was my best Buddy from 7th grade on.  His brother Malcolm, was dating my best friend Dora June Brady, so we were "chaperones".   Ken taught me a flim flam & a perdiddle and looked after me all the way through PJC.  At our 20th reunion, Ken & I discovered that we were both divorced and he was on his way to Dallas as a Republican convention delegate.  I lived there so we reconnected and continued to see each other for several years, playing in Pensacola, Steamboat, Orlando, etc.  He was a joy to know and loyal to a fault.  Unfortunately, I was in Arizona when he passed, & I could not get a flight in time for the service; my sister Kathleen,  went in my place.  He had been a wonderful friend to her too. We miss him and Dora and Malcolm too.  ACW Superfund site got Dora, Monsanto/Chemstrand got Malcolm, so my oldest and closest friends are gone at very young ages.  Rat a tat tat drummer boy.

Robert is marked in my Annona as deceased. No dates known!

Can someone verify this!!!

He, Bert Blomquist (moved), and I went around together most of the time, in the earlier years.  I cannot imagine marking this unless I was sure, especially since I considered him a close friend.

Will be checking further into this.

Bob was married to fellow classmate, Barbara Wheelbarger, for 20 years. His entire life was dedicated to space management at Kennedy Space Center. If he wasn't smoking cigars in his "man cave" or woodworking shop, he was traveling. Leukemia took his life in October 1989.

Bob and I shared an apartment  for a year and were in the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Auburn University for four years.

Bob was a wonderful and dedicated person in his personal life and with his professional studies.

Bob had me introduce him to Barbara at Pensacola High School in their senior year and they were married after he finished at Auburn.
